I have a free day before a stag weekend and I'm going for a spin on a demo bike from 18bikes, I've not been to that neck of the woods since I was a scout hiking up jacobs ladder and sneaking out from the youth hostel to have crafty pints in the rambler (think that was the name).
Can anyone suggest a decent route in that area about of about 15 miles or so that I can have potter about on - skill level... well there was nothing on the following trails that I couldn't do; Marin, Penmacho, Tarw and some dragon thing?
Cheers!
out of 18bikes, turn left and immediate left again down edale road, turn right after the bridge up towards fulwood style, up to Hope cross and straight on down potato alley, accross the road and up the tarmac climb past the farm, through the gate up to lockerbrook outdoor centre, through the gate and carry straight on. Down the woods to the gate at teh side of the res. turn right, down the road to fairholmes cafe, have a brew.
go back up the hill to the dam wall and turn left up the fire road. Follow this to the top, at the gate turn left.
When you get back to the top of the tarmac climb take the centre of the three tracks down hagg farm.
Over the A57, follow the res down to the dam wall, turn right after 100 yards onto the old railway line into thorhill, down to the road, turn right, 2 miles on the road into Hope.
DONE ๐
can email it as a gpx file if you want. To be honest - si will sort you with a route if you ask.
Finish on the Cavedale descent into Castleton then turn right and pootle back into Hope on the road.
To get to the top of Cavedale you'd probably have to do some sort of Mam Nick route.
not bad ROFL, id go down the beast rather than potato alley though. id also skip the loop down to fairholmes cos i dont rate that descent much and instead id go right at bottom of the beast, round the res, over the dam, up to winston lee tor, down to fairholmes, then pick up your loop again. id be tempted to add a loop up and down win hill on my way round the res but that might get a bit cheeky ๐
a gpx file would be no good as I'll be using an OS map, but thanks for the offer.
The route sounds good, I remember hope cross, thats the kind of route I was hoping for.
Many thanks!
Lockerbrook is fantastic - fast, slippy and grintastic! Whinston lee is juts a big puddle!
oh, and what are my chances of getting a taxi around there to tideswell do you think?
you can upload a gpx to google earth, hang on will bang it into a google maps to show you
o.0 I like that, very clever....

Well I'm a slow plodder uphill rather than a race whippet - but your more than welcome to come along if your friday is free.
