MegaSack DRAW - 6pm Christmas Eve - LIVE on our YouTube Channel
Discovered today that my rockshix Yari has 4 tokens installed. It’s 120mm. Too many? Always felt ok to me but bike shop recommended removing a couple.
if it feels ok to you why remove them?
If you’re using most of the travel and you aren’t finding it ramps up too hard at the end then don’t change it.
If you find the fork spikes hard on big / fast hits and isn’t using near full travel then maybe have a play about with the fork.
Don’t change something you’re happy with just because someone says you should. I think the shorter the travel on the Yari the more tokens it ships with because if you run it too linear it’ll blow through all the travel too quickly.
4 is the correct number to adjust the airspring to 120. Whether you want more or less as said would be a personal preference.
I took all the tokens out of my Pike (as did Will on one of his recent reviews) and much prefer it. But we're not you.
My 120 came with 3 in an another two in packet.
I now run one - it just ramped so quickly with more, at speed it was really noticeable and never got full travel.
I'm now up a few psi (less sensitive on small stuff) but I do get full travel and it feels better at speed.
I'm still prefer my old Fox F120 though, that felt more supple to start with and damping felt more controlled
i have a 130mm travel one on my Bird, I reduced to 1 token to get full travel with the correct sag for my body weight, which is about 12.5 stone.
How heavy are you and how hard do you ride?
Is it fitted to a Hardtail or Full Suspension bike?
You can't compare tokens except in the same forks really. Pikes/Revs will run different token numbers for the same travel, and then a 2017 or earlier fork will behave differently to a 2018, and then 2019+ is different again. So the only correct answer is to experiment. Most people find a happy place +-1 token from stock in my experience though.
Rode it this morning with the two remaining tokens. Probably wouldn't have known if it was a blind test tbh. Maybe a little firmer at the start of the travel now and definitely a bit more travel used than previously, judging by the dust marks on the stanchions.
It's on a plus wheeled HT. Which in itself may iron a bit of the chatter out. I tend not to jump on this bike at all, other than a few drops on the local trails of 1-2 feet.
I'm about 95kg kitted up.
