Are there any other differences on the deluxe RT v RT3 shock other than the lock out function?
And are there any other differences between the standard deluxe v super deluxe other than the piggy back (so presuming it will deal with longer descents better due to this) but apart from that is this a better shock over the standard deluxe?
Bump for the evening crowd
I think rt3 has the lever with lockout / pedal platform / full open - which I don't think the rt has. Ben at Bird also advised it has an extra bearing mount that the rt doesn't have for added compliance. I think that's it though.
When discussing the benefits of the super deluxe it wasn't worth the extra money for me as I don't go to the alps or race downhill etc - it's more about keeping cooler and continuing to perform more consistently under pressure. Not aware there's too much more in it than that. But I'm no expert.
I went deluxe with rt3 and it's been great so far.
Cheers, RT3 deluxe sounds like the one. Is this on a bird? Bike I’m looking at is the am9.
I just switched a RT3 for a RT on my Whyte.. mainly because the RT was in ML3 tune vs the ML on the RT3 and it was on eBay for £100. I never used the lockout anyway.... and wanted to try.
So far I'd say the benefits of the right tune for the bike and my (72kg) weight far outweigh the "extras" to the RT3 on a T-130. (YMMV depending on the linkage etc.) and if the Deluxe actually adds much in real life where/how you ride.
I only tried it a little on "bigger stuff" (FOD) but the small bump is better and it didn't quite bottom out even when I cased the odd jump. I've yet to try adding a volume spacer or two...
What did Bird say?
I know with the Monarchs the piggyback version seemed a cut above the standard in terms of grip in the rough.
Totally agree on gettign the right tune, but Bird should have handled that either way.
the difference in the old monarch/monarch plus was more than just the piggy back. The settings for the lever was different, the RT3 applied more LSC compared to the RC3 so you had a stiffer pedal setting. The shim stack was also different IIRC. wither that translates to the current delux/super delux is a different story.
GavJackson - yes it's on an Aeris 145. Suggested if I was going to upgrade anything it would be worth doing the rt to the rt3 but it wasn't worth compromising the rest of the build to push to the super deluxe for my usage.
Inused a bit more of my budget to upgrade the brakes / rotor sizes / full chainguide and bash guard / dropper post / smaller front chainring.
