[#4599343]

Fancy some Schwalbe CX Comp tyres for my alfine-8 roadrat.
I need to run full guards too. I've currently got the SKS chromoplastic ones.

Can I get away with 700Cx35 and guards, or should I get the 700Cx30 ?

Thanks!

What width are the guards?

will depend on the guards...

SKS P45 guards on mine (biggest that will go in the roadrat frame without bodging) and I've used them with 700c x 38 Schwalbe snow studs. They worked fine work with decent clearance. Also used them with Kenda Small Block 8s at 700 x 35, again loads of room.

Good question.

I'm not sure tbh, I think I've got the 'narrow' ones which are listed as 35mm?

Their range of guards is really confusing, blumels, chromoplastic, blah blah!

I guess I could get some new guards, but i'd prefer to keep the narrow ones I guess.

Is the consensus that with the narrow ones I can fit 30 but would be the wider ones to fit 35s?

Be aware that once you fit guards on a RR it becomes a right pain in the arse to get the rear wheel out with the horizontal dropouts. I had a rack on mine too and in the end it was one of the 3 reasons I got rid of the bike.

Not if you fit them like a thinking man

Absolutely no issues removing my wheel with mudguards still in situ, no unbolting or unclippingjust slide wheel back and drop it down.

Yup, I can get the wheel out with the rack and current guards on.. although with a bigger tyre I'm sure it's harder.

Think I'll order the 30s and hope to fit them in my existing guards.
