The wheels on my winter biked are dying. I have some low spec (Mavic Aksium) wheels on my summer/race bike. Rather than buy new wheels for the winter bike I was going to buy some nice wheels and swap the aksiums over.
Looking for wheels to race, ride sportives and other long rides on. The Model B seem like good value, low weight wheels. Am I going to get much more through getting some hope hoops? There's an extra few hunder £££ on the price but negligible weight gain.
A quick bit about deep section rims. Is it worth the weight gain to get more aerodynamic for your average rider. Not a huge number massive mountain races in the North East but would a deep section rim make me faster in a typical crit stye race?
Lightweight deep section wheels can be good in crits, the main issue with deep section wheels is cheap ones tend to be heavy and the last thing you want in a crit (with lots of sprinting out of corners) is a heavy wheel that takes a lot of effort to spin up.
Out of your two choices if the Hope rear road hub is anything like as noisy as the MTB one then I'd go with Planet-X, frankly it would drive me (and those around me) potty on a road bike.
model b well rated at the price.
no mint in deep section unless you are. time trialling, too heavy and stiff.
I'd have a look at American Classic 420 Aero 3's for a deep section or Shimano RS80's for a shallow section.I run a rs80 24mm up front and a carbon 50mm on the back.
