Currently got some bog basic shimano 2300 hubs on Mach 1 Ashphaltec omega rims - Would like some nicer wheels but only have £100-150 to spend which i am very aware is **** all!

Any recommendations?

What is a decent weight for a pair?

I get these from Germany

Edit - equally the rs30's are nice, but bearing change in the fulcrum's is a doddle .

I would avoid cheap planet x wheels. I bought a pair of a57 wheels last November and the bearings lasted less than 700 miles commuting. Planet x did replaced them but advised this was the likely lifespan of the bearings. The went seriously out of tru very quickly too.

I've had loads of other wheelsets on my commuter, mavic aksium, various shimano and the first thing to go was the rim splitting through wear, I've not had bearing issues with any other wheels.

Can't fault Aksiums for that kind of money. They came as OE on my Focus a couple of years ago and have never needed touching - still running smooth and true after nearly 5000 miles.

Fulcrum racing 7 an be had for your budget. An LBS should be able to put together a set of wheels using Rigida Chrina's, Shimano Tiagra hubs and Sapim Race spokes. Well my shop does so other will too. I am suggesting something like this as the Chrina (I ride on them myself) has a very durable braking surface and if built right then they are very durable.

Fulrrum 7 are about 1980g for the pair. Most wheels sub £150 are going to be around this weight. Miche make some decent wheels too and the Exite and Relfex come in on budget. Miche hubs are very durable but they are heavier than the Fulcrum wheels.
