[#4180774]

Been looking on-line at new road bikes...
(TdF related - maybe... summer weather realted, maybe not)

I got in to mtb in the mid 90s, but rode on the road before that...

But road bikes look a lot different in the (almost) 20 years since I bought / built my last one

[IMG] [/IMG]

I have concluded that I don't know what I am looking at, but have an idea what I am looking for. Always liked Italian bikes, and fancied a Colnago, Pinarello or Bianchi - yes, I accept, there is a healthy dose of aethetics / vanity in that thinking

Show me some droolworthy bikes that might interest me.

ETA - I still ride the Paganini. I find it very twitchy after mtbing, and the frame is a tad small

Well thank you turtle - very helpful...

I had, in fact, started by looking through the various pages of online retailers' road bikes - hence the appeal for some informed STW input 😉

for sunny days - carbon beast totally out of my league in terms of what is was designed for but oh so comfy and fast.
[img] [/img]
for wet and mud and trails - love this bike as is very responsive and was less than £1K, real swiss army knife IFYKWIM, can be had with disc brakes these days.

+1 for the Coretto...

I'd have a Storck as a consolation though...

That Baum thing is vile; fat forks and a skinny rear end look wrong.

Pretty much the definition of 'a nice road bike' imo. Some things haven't changed that much..

Well apart from the Baum bikes that's an underwhelming list of ordinary!

Better!

Purely personal opinion, but I'm not keen on the understated titaniumish look, I much prefer the big mad fat tubed carbon silliness.

[img] [/img]

If you're going to dress in skin tight lycra, might as well do it loud...

Because titanium and thin tubed steel is dull, no matter how much it may cost.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion.....no matter how wrong and stupid it may be.

Oi Doc!....I have never hated anyone without meeting them first as much as I hate/envy you right now

At the end of the day plastic is still plastic.

Dull, or classy, or old-fashioned, or timeless .. but certainly the exact opposite of that Cube )
