[Closed] Road Bike - Change Chain/Cassette/Both?

Changed the cassette and chain on my bike a while back. 2500km later the chain wear is over the 0.75 mark on my chain checker.

It felt like I was getting quicker "pick-up" with a new chain and cassette. Is this down to the combination of the two, or am I alright to just change the chain for now?

Thanks.

Anyone care to weigh in?

It was down to both, now just change the chain - they wear over about 1000 miles (SS/fixed excepted). Better still, run two and alternate every 500 miles.

my contribution if indicator says just worn I'd happily just swop the chain - that's the whole point of regular checking with a chain tool

never been good enough at routine maintenance to swop chains / reverse etc on a regular basis

changing just the chain always (for me) gives a noticeable improvement

traditional for shops to swop the cassette and the chain but think this comes from the we don't want the customer coming back and complaining approach that also results in pedals being tightened to ludicrous torques[/rant] and to be fair shops get a lot of bikes that haven't seen any maintenance

so I'd swop the chain and if problems shifting when riding (not sure if shows up too well in a stand) then change the cassette

Cheers. I've got both on order and an 11-28 cassette for my spindly post holiday legs so I'm going to have to resize the chain anyway.

How do you track how long you've used a chain for when alternating between two?

Just a guess based on weeks.
