I rode it last night - apart from the top section which seems to have eroded abit more 8)

The middle (right line not the chicken line) section is smooth - all the loose bolders/stones seem to have been moved or smoothed over? Its alot quicker but also a lot duller.

Why?

it's a rocky track that gets used and abused by 4x4s and weather, changes weekly dunnit. At the moment it's pretty smooth but it'll change again.

Pretty sure the 4x4ists/ramblers/bikerists haven't been lining up all the loose rocks to make a smoother road.

maybe the farmer who uses it to get around the land? At the end of the day it's an access track

hmm, I guess so but I've never seen farm vehicles using it before, only 4x4 enthusiasts and the occasional motorbike. There's certainly easier (if longer) ways for a farmer to get up there.

We rode it a couple of weeks ago & noticed all the extra aggregate. As stated above it's probably been done by the farmer/North West utilities. They also did work on Lead Mines Clough making it a lot easier, plus they've put some 'whoops' on the bridleway from Healy Nab.

not sure I agree that lead Mines Clough is easier.

It's like riding over a field of large ball bearings.
A good old cloudburst will probably sort it out......hopefully.

Ooo look I'm in the Lakes and I'm going to balls to the wind-speed obviously over 100%-line of my talent window...so now we should all sanitise the Lakes to take into account riders who can't handle a kink in a trail ๐Ÿ˜†

OK I've ridden it a couple of times since this thread now.

Yeah the "riverbed" bit lower down seems to be less bouldery for sure, though with some more steppy bedrock bits than I remember from before.

But it's the top bit from where the rocks start to just after the tarmac drop that seemed to have changed today. The first bedrocky bit seems more washed out and awkward - and the ground is really loose and crumbled up after that.

Seems harder than usual to hold a line. Not just me is it?

I went down a couple of days after this thread was started and to me it seemed a lot of babies heads had been lifted from the lower half and dumped back up near the tarmac drop off.

Either way for whatever reason I'm never too quick down that run, I always feel like I'm going to loose the front wheel. I know speed is your friend but I just can't seem to hit it at speed.

Its one of the few places locally that I have never crashed

plus they've put some 'whoops' on the bridleway from Healy Nab.

Yes but i am climbing up that so what use are they

Its because you are going faster that it is harder to hold a line
Its one of the lies I say to myself ๐Ÿ˜‰ but it may actually be true

It's always varied on the weather. Lead mines worse now it's got sod all traction now.

The biggest issue is the ruts all over the place

I know it's been windy but that takes the biscuit!

If I had to point the finger, it would be at those pesky doggers not the wind!
