I fancy heading to the hills tomorrow or Sunday anyone got any suggestions (or gpx files) of places I can get to within a reasonably short train ride from Edinburgh?

Done a fair bit of the Pentlands and don't fancy a busy trail centre. Ain't got a motor either so it's public transport all the way.

Dumayat or other routes in the Ochils from stirling is well possible but might well be rather busy on a sunny saturday, Glen Tilt from Blair atholl as well but thats a longer train ride

Stirling bike club website might have other routes around stirling

I have done North Berwick along the coast and train return a few times - not the greatest of riding but a few interesting bits

If you want to do a flatland ride 30 - 40 miles from edinburgh with us tomorrow then e mail me - we will be going out but pencaitland railway or canal type riding. Offroad but easy scenic stuff

Cheers everyone, I might be out Stirling way on Sunday so will look into some routes round there.

TJ, as long as it's not the union canal then I might take you up on the offer. I cycle that way to work every day.

Linlithgow then ride out to Beecraigs? Only ridden there once in the snow and it was ace, not sure how easy it would be to navigate though.

train to north berwick then ride up to the law carpark (cant miss north berwick law!) and follow the john muir way to east linton then ride west along the river tyne to hailes castle (signed), then a 3 mile minor road to haddington then if you have an OS map find the trails west of haddi via butterdean wood to pencaitland-or 5 miles on road then west of pencaitland join the old railwayline trail down to whitecraigs and into town...
