I'm looking for some new shorts which are fairly sturdy in nature. Everything seems to be made from these stretchy fabrics now and this isn't really a good thing in my eyes. I live in Scotland, ride 3 -4 times a week and I wore through a pair of RaceFace trousers in the crotch region in no time at all it seems.
Not overly impressed with Endura products I've had recently. Can somebody recommend me some decent shorts please?
It perplexes me that people make mtb clothing that isn’t reinforced in the arse! I mean it should be the most basic feature. Shorts rarely last me more than a year or two. Dharco and Endura seem the best… but could be better.
If you want 'sturdy' then Troy Lee Moto shorts are brilliant. I really like them for trail riding, they are quite protective too.
I have worn Alpkit Floe shorts for 1000s of miles bikepacking over several years and have yet to wear a hole in them. The colours have faded, but they are otherwise intact.

Actually these were up there with Dharco. Lasted me two years. I bought the trousers as a result.

Troy Lees are definitely durable, but wearing them in summer usually means getting acquainted with Betty Swollocks.
The Rapha shorts and trousers I've got are lasting well - also fit nicely and have the best pockets I've come across on bike gear.
I think the oldest shorts I've had 4 years, trousers a little less. Thats with Peak District grinding paste (although only once or twice a week in winter).
I have also done the TL Moto thing in the past - worn out the arse of a couple of pairs, but it did take some doing. (Also agree with @citizenlee)
A mudguard will probably help with lifespan in filthy weather.
