We have got a weeks holiday booked about 6 miles south of Hereford.

Taking the bike and hope to get the chance to get out for a couple of 2 hour ish rides. Anyone got any ideas where is good to target either specific routes or general areas. General cross country routes ideal for a light hardtail and a rider trying to increase his fitness after the birth of his daughter 3 months ago.

Cheers Ben.

You can pootle round Haugh woods which has some sections of easy singletrack if you can sniff it out, there is nothing way marked. The clay in the soil holds moisture really well, can be pretty greasy there!

West woods has a little Downhill circuit with nothing scary, which is fun.

The Forest of Dean has tons of riding of all types, Google pedalabikeaway. Logging there at the mo has sadly rendered some sections no go. That's where I'd head for. Lovely 30min drive down the Wye valley to get there too.

Don't go climbing over any fences on Credon Hill looking for cheeky singletrack, the locals can be a bit 'shooty'.
