Yeah the police gave me her details as she wants to sort it ammicably. Probably thinks a few bob will do it.
Thing is, is the whole bike a write off?
New Giro
New Shoes
New kit
Let alone all the cuts and bruising, headache and neck pain
she wants to sort it ammicably
lol, I bet she bloody does!!
I'd take the opportunity to face her & ask the awkward questions for yourself, then tell her the bad news (that you've already sought legal advice and she's looking at a lot of money)
Did you ask the police what they're doing about the hit & run ?
Apparently she drove back to look for me?
5 hours later? + 1 for the drinking theory
press charges
First off - healing vibes!
Yeah the police gave me her details as she wants to sort it ammicably
???
Have the police said anything to her at all? Accident? Leaving the scene thereof etc etc??
Guess it's down to you and whether you kick it back to the police with the request the make it formal and pursue the pressing of charges.
Either way - I'd certainly not be calling her without having spoken to the police in detail about what they plan to do and maybe's a solicitor to see what effect a conversation with this lady could have in terms of recompense...
A-per-pro not much MrsMM's first reaction was 'oh, time for a glass of wine on the way home to wear off'...
press charges
+1, for sure....
Call the police and tell them that if they are not going to act then you are going to the local paper with the story. They'll like it as they can link it to the horrible case of Simon Richardson which is national news. Why are local police not taking hit and run seriously etc etc. I don't think they will like the idea of the exposure. This case is just as serious - hitting someone in your car and doing nothing to see if they are ok or getting help for them is totally unforgivable. The fact that you injuries will quickly heal is irrelevant - this person left you with no regard to your condition, if you'd been seriously hurt in desperate need of medical attention they would have still left you.
Get a solicitor - take her to the cleaners. She doesn't sound like a 'nice' person. If she was drinking you can't prove it otherwise the police would have done her already. The bike probably costs thousands to replace and your injuries shouldn't be taken lightly. A good (bad ) firm of ambulance chasers will at least focus her mind for next time after they have taken her to the cleaners on your behalf. Might spare the next cyclist from perhaps worse than than you suffered. Good luck mate.
Hi,
I think you should look into what happens if you do not get compensation from her, just in case. I was hit in a hit and run, however the driver was never found. There is an organisation (called the motor insurance bureau IIRC) who can pay out in such cases, but will only do so if you have injuries that have been documented. I didn't have my minor injuries documented and so they would not pay out for my wrecked bike etc. If you haven't already, go to the doctors of A&E, just to cover your back. Get well soon and I hope your get adequate compensation.

A girlie ran into the back of my car (with the bikes on the towbar rack), and she was concerned that she'd push the rack into the rear of the car and scratched it. I suggested that she worry whether she's damaged the bikes instead...
S-Works Enduro and DH Norco vs 12 year old 5 series
But anyway, Karl, I'd call the lady and tell her the replacement cost of your bike and gear and wait for her offer - if its a 'no', call the Plod.
Bloody odd
She called it in that night at 00.16am without exactly admiting to hitting me.
Police get my report at Thames Valley today and put two and two together.
They call her (I think) they then call me.
They say she wants me to call her to settle it ammicably and give me her name and number.
I call her and she asks me what happened, I tell her. Then she asks me how much damage has been done and how much it'll cost. At that point she said there were other cars on the road?
At that point I just confirm I want to go through the insurance.
I called back the PC as he asked, and explain what I'm doing.
How bizzare.
She has gone on record as saying she wants me to call her so she can settle it without going through the insurance.
But now doesn't think it was her??????FFS
The car was silver, I later thought it was light bronze but my earliest documented report refers to it as grey.
I have been to my GP, he wanted to examine my neck and head and also the split crash helmet. And to document the cuts to arms, legs, shoulers blades, bum and hand.
Cycle Claims had been informed as I never thought I'd hear from anyone.
Why would you call in after midnight to report an accident that wasn't anything to do with you that had happened five hours earlier?
Is it not the job of the police to investigate this? For them to find out if it was her?
You said you have paint from the car on some of your kit, surely the police can do some police things and check for a match?
I'd be wanting to know why the police are not investigating her as the person who did a hit and run and failed to report an accident. Aren't they against the law and more important than her insurance claim?
It all seems abit odd.
Utterly bizarre that the police believe there is a way of sorting this out "amicably". It's a hit and run! Call the cops and tell them you expect charges to be pressed. If she wants to talk to you she can do it in court!

You mentioned your shoes had traces of paint on them - keep hold of them, presume the paint will match the car = back up your claim.
'Ambulance chasing lawyers' - hate the phrase. Really don't like folk who exaggerate claims / support the exaggeration of claims but, something tells me you're not that kind of guy and, to me, this goes beyond platitudes and payment to replace the bike and parts.
Just occurred to me - what does she do for a living?
Police, solicitor - even at clerk / admin level? That would look really, really bad on her if it came to charges being pressed... another reason why she wants to keep it amicable...??
Hello Bruce
Two bike shops would write it off, although the frame looks okay the fact that the force was enough to grind a hole in the bars and grind off nine outer teeth (not five) smash the STIs and compress the rear mech worries them.
On a side note why would the driver pass on the reg and insurance details if they weren't involved?
Oh, if you have it, save her number.
She's panicking. Next she'll claim you reveresed into her or something similarly stupid. She's either been sat at home worrying about it or someone has convinced her to report it. Probably convinced herself, been convinced she'll be able to sort it all out amicably. Now that's looking less likely / the cost, damage, injuries are rather more than she expected she's having second thoughts.
If it were me I'd definitely sorting the legal help and pushing the police very hard to take this more seriously. I'd also cease communications with her, not your responsibility, may compromise you in future and if she's anything like other people I've come across in a similar position she may start to get nasty and issue threats. Not worth the hassle.
Of course, she could be covering for someone. Does she have a young son/daughter (around 17ish), or another half who is already banned, etc etc. She really may not know what happened if she wasn't driving.
Either way, get legal advice, make an official statement to the police, and you can always add further statements as you remember more detail. Don't settle amicably - this needs to go on her (insurance) record, especially if the police don't take it further.
Healing vibes and I hope it gets sorted
There will be no further contact that's for sure, I don't know, care or want to know anymore about them.
She is on record with the police as wanting to sort it ammicably and AFAIC that means they're guilty.
I just want to get better, I can't train because my breathing is shallow and my body aches. Three hard weeks on my programe down the pan. I've got to rebuild another bike just to be able to ride at all.
Getting angry all over again now.
hope you get to feeling better soon, and I hope that this all gets sorted out...shame you're having all this trouble now bc of one careless idiot...(sharpens pitchfork) 👿
+1 for the covering for another driver. As she is now "unsure" if it was her or not I think I'd go down the official route too. She could string it out then decide it wasn't her by which time the trail will be cold so to speak.
You got run off your bike resulting in serious damage to both and I think we know who is responsible. There is one thing you are wrong on though.
Good old helmets, hate to think what state I'd have been in if I wasn't wearing one.
It's been proven time and time again on here that wearing a helmet does no good whatsoever. In fact it often makes things worse. If you hadn't been wearing a helmet you and your bike would've been fine and her car would be the write-off. Probably. 8)
Get well soon mate, hope you heal quickly and can ride ASAP. That sequence of events is, as you say, most odd. I can't see why you would suggest sorting it amicably if you were not the driver.
And I totally agree that it can't be resolved amicably - she ****ing drove into you then left you injured at the side of the road!!!!! Please do what you can to get the police to prosecute her. It may be that there isn't enough evidence to satisfy the CPS but it is worth pushing IMO. Bikes can be replaced but people can't. You could have been seriously injured and not had treatment due to her driving off.
Sorry, was hoping to post something to calm the anger down since that never helps, but then got a bit ranty 😳
Here's a lego animation for you 🙂
Sorry to hear about this and echo what's been said above, very strange way the Police are dealing with it and she should be done for a hit and run at least.
Hope you get well and it all works out with costs etc.
I'd get in touch with the Chief Constable of the relevant police force, service or whatever we're supposed to call them these days, and ask why it's not being investigated fully. The onus is not on you to do anything, it's their job! It might be worth tracking the vehicle down though and taking photos before the damage 'disappears'. That's what I did in a similar situation. When the driver was confronted with this evidence her story that it was my fault and that I had left the scene crumbled. You are entitled to see the offender caught and punished and you are entitled to recompense for your injuries and losses. If your helmet was split I'd put money on you having concussion. Hope you feel better soon.
I wonder if she knows/is a relation of the copper involved?
Step back now, document EVERYTHING and leave it to the solicitors/courts etc
Surely and important thing to get now is a photo of the damage to the car to demonstrate there was contact. If they all of a sudden want to get it repaired it may make claiming against her more difficult if there is a lack of evidence. Whether it's you, a friend or the old bill who go take a couple of photos, that's another matter.
Macgyver
Really sorry to read all this - sounds a lot like Tom (Gordon's) accident last month in Sunderland.
IME, sadly even very obvious, story-telling damage to car and bike won't help much if there isn't a witness. The polis are very fond of hearing from both sides that it was the fault of the other, and writing it off as blow-for-blow. So I'm hoping there was a traceable witness?
Surely even if there is any doubt about fault it was still a hit and run (and *she* called it in) so I would insist charges are pressed for that.
The company dealing with it now say it'll be sorted quickly.
Hit and run should be at least 6 points and minimum of £1k fine, certainly it is when someone perjures them self in court against you.
Hope you're OK, let me know if I can help. Otherwise see you on 1st October at MK Bowl?
De Ja vu. Last year September the 15th I was crushed by a pallet and missed six races.
But I'll see ya. Though what about round 1, will you not be at that?
You might be needing to look here
There is something very wrong here.
+1 for specialist legal advice e.g. CTC.
Get well soon.
Rd 1 not confirmed yet, and I think its the same day as the 3 Peaks...
oldgit - MemberThe company dealing with it now say it'll be sorted quickly.
Oldgit, I have to ask, I assume that means insurance company? If so I assume that the lady in question has been deemed responsible?
Just out of interest have you had any more dealings with the police about the driver? Fair enough if you don't want to take it further, but has there been an option of them investigating further or prosecuting etc?
I only ask because I would be talking/shouting to anyone who would listen to get the driver punished for their actions...maybe you're not the same but I'd be ****ing fuming!
The problem is that the driver is all over the place and it's not been proved that she was the driver.
Hit me
Drove off
Came back later
Reported it at midnight
wanted to settle it off the record
Asked me the cost of the damage
then said it might not have been her.
Shes worried and testing the waters,
But I don't think it looks good for her. Especialy after going on police record as wanting to settle it without going through the insurance. And the calling in at past midnight.
Cycle Claims seem very confident.....but the whole of STW knows my luck.
maybe you're not the same but I'd be **** fuming!
TBH I just want to get riding again, and I was just down to my race bike and the cross bike, but the crosser has bits missing and awaiting parts for the start of the CX season.
Oldgit, tell me what bits you need; I've seriously got some 10 speed STIs that you can borrow until you get going, I've got bars, I've got that bike to give you, I can even sort you some shoes. Don't be stuck, send me an email.
crikey your an angel.
I only need a 27.2 seatpost the get the crosser going, none of the LBSs had that size?
The colblers re attached the ratchet to my shoe.
Apart from that the bike will just have to sit there. I reckon I could repair most of it at the workshop.
My mates back from France, just waiting for his address. I only know it's New Mills.
I think someone will have a post I can borrow until the one I want is available
I'm going to resume the carmicheal on Saturday, the bust bike should be fine on the turbos, just hope I am....still sore
Thanks again for your offers you a top man.
I have a campag 27.2 gran sport seatpost you can have, 1980s style but still good kit. Let me know, it's for free. Out now until tomorrow am though
higthepig cheers, I'm trying to get out this Sunday if I'm okay to ride. I've got one on order from Ribble, it might even show Saturday.
Thanks again
oldgit - I've probably got a 27.2 seatpost if you need one...
That is utterly ludicrous that the Police would take a report of a hit and run and then pass the phone number of the accused to the victim. What the **** is going on there 😕
