Looking at replacing the basic CTD evolution rear shock on my Zesty if something suitable comes up. Looking at how it is mounted the shaft eyelets are at a horizontal to mount to the linkage as opposed to on the vertical of the upper mount. It appears that on most bikes both eyelets are on the vertical when mounted, shocks I have seen are sold like this, does the shaft simply rotate by hand through 90 degrees to get the eyelet in the right position or is there more to it than that?
Also anything else to consider when buying (shock condition, size and tune aside)?
yes it rotates
possibly clearance of external reservoir in frame etc

This contraption?
It should rotate, Tune is probably the top thing I'd go for, Size is a given if your looking second hand then expect to need to service it.
So if your going to pay to service it why not look at getting your current shock tuned (Push/Avalanche), whats the bit with the shock thats lacking?
It just turns by hand, if you get a shock with a piggyback reservoir make sure it doesn't foul the frame under compression, and some makes of shock use different size eyelets and bolts so you might need new hardware as well
Great, thanks Kimbers. I think frame should be OK for a reservoir if I go that way, though looking at Fox Factory Floats at the moment.
@mikesmith - that's the one, albeit on a 2014 frame, what tune does yours say on the shock body as mine just has a custom tune reference?
In terms of getting it tuned, I have read the Evo shock has different (and a bit simplistic) internals ruling a tune out, hence the interest in swapping if something decent comes up at a good price. If a tune is an option I'd probably go there.
Assuming I get a fox shock i'd probably just swap hardware around as it's pretty new at the moment.
not mine I just googled for the image! I have a santa cruz.
For custom tunes Loco/TF seem like a good starting place, waiting for my avalanche fork carts to come but some have had some rear shocks done.
