I have to replace my x-type bb from my race face cranks.

What would you people recommend?

Are the shimano deore ones for £10 really that bad, would a race face x type bb really be worth spending £30 on.
Sadly hope at £70 is out of the question

My Hopes are currently working out at about much cheaper than the rest, last cheap deore one on a bike here lasted 6 months. There are some other ones about that people reckon are good with better bearings and seals.

To be honest I ride hard, and I ride in the peaks.

Judging by the reviews a deore one just isn't going to last is it.

Hope=buy once, Shimano=buy every few months 😉

Have you ever had to replace the bearings/ seals in your hope bb?

If so how frequently?

The one that is in the spare frame in the garage was a good 3 years (lakes/scotland/enduro/alps) and never touched. Plenty of cranks swapping over that time.
The HT one was a bit older and had 1 bearing replaced after messing up getting the GXP Adapter out.

I've just changed an Aerozine - nothing wrong with it after 4.5 years'ish.

I have Hopes. Just found a 3 month old replacement bearing contaminated with water. Not the first time I have had issues. So they aren't infallible as some think.

Uberbike BBs are good, mine went in at the end of March last year and has done 2,750km and is still running smooth. I've had the top hat seals off a few times to clean out and replace the grease and the seals off the bearings once to clean out and regrease both of which were easy to do which isn't the case on Shimano BBs. Also it will be very easy to replace the bearings in the cups when they do wear out with decent quality bearings

Its a quick and easy job to swap.

You can get replacement bearings for the race face bb. I replaced mine after 9 months - lasted another 9. Now bought a hope which I hope lasts a lot longer. I hate having the inconvenience and fear of cross threading every time I do a bb so much rather change it less often...

XT works well for me, lasts ages. Deore not so much, I killed one in a day on the big bike but at best they last about half as long as an XT.

Good option for one step above is Gusset's EXT24- lasts better than Shimano, more servicable (if you clean it out very occasionally through it's life, and maybe add a little grease, it'll last a lot longer than XT), and very easy to replace the bearings (just be careful not to break the top hat, it's not fragile but it's not tough either). And uses totally standard bearings so wins over Hope for me.

The ceramic ones lasted 4 years and were only replaced as I stripped the cup threads (got new cups under warranty), the SS ones are now 5 years old.
