hi all,
looking to remove the old cranks, old style x-type with the 8mm hex recess, with a 10mm hex cap.
What's all this about, and how do I do it?

For removal you just undo the 8mm bolt, leve the 10mm cap in place. By undoing the 8mm bolt against the cap the crank arm is pulled off.
Once the arm is removed take the 10mm cap off to allow easier re-assembly - this is reverse threaded.

As above. You can try and tighten the 10mm 1st just to on the safe side if you want, but you just undo the 8mm following the directions given by the arrows.
