Hi
I'm trying to disassemble my Hope XC front hub to replace the bearings. I haven't done anything to it before in the five years or so that I've had it.
A video on the Hope site shows the spacers on a Pro2 hub just pulling out gently in a vice. Tried the same thing and they wouldn't budge at all. Is there a different way to remove XC spacers or do I just need brute force?
Thanks
From what i remeber of my xc hubs you use an allen key in each end of the spacers and unscrew them.
Newer ones are held in place with an o-ring. Try soaking the axle ends with WD40 overnight. They can be a bitch to shift first time.
You could try hitting the axle end to push them out, OR put the cassette and lockring back on and firmly pull the cassette away from the wheel to move the spacer on the axle (dont do the lockring up at all tight).
If this works you should be able to hammer the other end of the axle free now.
I asked this about my bulbs you stick a 5mm allen key into each end of the axle and turn!
No allen keys on the XC hub, probably best to knock the axle through with the bearing and spacer attached and then tap the axle through those.
Thanks very much for the advice - got it out by knocking the axle through with a mallet. Needed a good whack though!
