My wife's bargain basement MTB has some cheapo cranks with a 14mm hex bolt instead of the regular self-extracting bolt. Which way should I be turning it to remove? Thanks!

It's a reeler thread so anti clockwise. Then you'll need a crank removal tool to take the cranks from the bb.
