Peel and pick off the tape, then remove residue with white spirit/petrol/WD40.

Get it really hot with a hair dryer.

Isopropyl on a rag got it off quickly for me.

Man what a pain in the arse it is, its just flaking off bit by bit and leaving all the white sticky stuff which is stickier than a sticky thing in sticksville!!!

+1 for a bit of heat. Hair drier, paint gun (used carefully) or even hot water and a scourer

If it's gorilla tape, you're going to have a bad time. I tore off as much as I could, then used quite a lot of petrol to melt the glue. Then I think a scotchbrite pad or an old tshirt to get the glue/tape gunk off (paper towels just stick to the goo and fall apart). It was rubbish tbh.

It does look like some sort of gorilla tape.

You can buy pure acetone from the Boots pharmacy counter, you just have to ask for it. It cost £1.60 for a bottle.

I've used paint thinners in the past with good results, but use it in a well ventilated space away from any sources of ignition.
Also you could try Autoglym bug and tar remover, as it works quite well.

If it's gaffs tape the best thing to use is petrol
I find after a few years just the top shiny layer peel off, the petrol breaks up the adhesive so all the strands will come off, then hose it all off after
