Had to change bearings on my Fulcrum 3 wheels today.
Anybody know why they remove the inside rubber seal on all the bearings?
The inside of hub and free hub was packed full of lard like grease too. Never come across this before.
Less rubber seals mean less drag ,
It does not seem to help them last very long though
same on my campag hubs, i am assuming that campag (who own fulcrum) have decided that lots of grease is better than an internal seal. After all what does the internal seal actually keep out that you want to keep out?
In theory nothing should get to the inside of the hub anyway so I can see the logic. Doesn't seem to work like that in reality though.
My 2006 Eurus wheels are still perfectly smooth running after over 30,000 miles of riding. I've also has them on my cx bike for the last 2 years of both racing and off road riding (90k a week). Seems absolutely fine to me.
aP wins.
Perhaps ap wins. Unless of course your bearings are shot after a couple of months, then you loose, whatever ap's experience's are.
Ap. are those wheels Useing the better loose ball beating hubs rather than cartridge bearings
