I've a 1/8in half link chain I'm refitting to new (to me) trials bike frame.
When I joined it originally I used the special joining pin.
Will I require another special joining pin should I shorten for new frame or will any 1/8 joining pin work?
Cheers + keep well.
It's been a while since I fitted a half link chain but I think if you can get a standard pin out without damaging it (they might be peened over) then you should be able to whack it back in. There's no side to side movement on singlespeed so nothing trying to rip it apart.
Yeah, what bigjohn said. If it's an "old-fashioned" chain with no weirdness - which I'm sure they all are - youll be OK.
I used to use a full-link 9sp chain with 3 short lengths of chain that had quicklink join"abilty" at each end. One had a half link on it so I'd have Xlinks, X+1/2 and X+1 as spare bits. I'd start with X+1 and as the cahin stretched I'd swap the shorter one in.
Thanks for the replies...much appreciated.
@scaredypants is that for singlespeed duties?
I'm a bit paranoid seeing as it's for a trials bike. Might lose my front teeth if a chain breaks :o(
Cheers + ride safe + keep well
