Does anybody know how to refill the applicator bottle without ripping the dropper cap off?

mine just pulled out (bottle from a few years ago so design might have changed)

Mine was tight but came off and back on with no probs at all

The dropper is tight but you can tease it out with a pair of thin nose pliers.

Maybe i've been a bit heavy handed, the pliers ripped the dropper off. Thanks.
