Anyone use one? Is it like going back in time to the Flexstem days?
Did a bumpy ride over Nidderdale yesterday & at the end of the last descent I was really wishing I’d been on the HT at least.
I was running 50mm 650b tyres with about 35/40 psi.
Any real world experience with a modern day Girvin Flexstem?

I've been running one since last year and I wouldn't be without it. Only really noticeable on bigger hits but it's very welcome when it works. The rest of the time it's just subtly doing it's job. Really reliable so far. Definitely recommend it.

Same, very subtle but definitely takes the edge of small high frequency bumps.

Not sure how it might vary with different setups. I’m running 700c x 35mm tyres; not sure how pronounced the effect would be with larger volume, lower pressure tyres.

No downsides though - barely notice it even when climbing/sprinting.

Another happy user here. Had one fitted on my old 40c tyred bike and that's now on my wife's Bridge Club. I've now got a Pro one on my Cutthroat. I had a Girvin stem BITD too as it happens. I can't remember what that was like however! 😄

Yep, I like mine too. Definitely not like a suspension fork, but don't definitely does help. I'd buy again.

Love mine. Just does its thing and takes the buzz away. I run 47mm tyres on 650b wheels. Also got the seatpost which is excellent.

Are you running tubeless? I run 700x38 tubeless at 35-40 psi, wondering if you could drop a little air?

I know 2 people who use them on gravel bikes and really rate them.
One of them has the seatpost too, and reckons that works well as well.

Another happy user here. No downsides apart from a little bit more weight.

With a USE suspension seat post I have a full suss gravel bike! (Sort of)

Are they likely to go like old elastomer suspension forks after a few years of cold winters?

I didn't like mine ☹️. Even with elastomers two 'settings' too heavy for my weight, I just found the sensation of movement too disconcerting, it put me off any physical handling of the front end of the bike.

However, now I've sold it I'm beginning to wonder if my position on the bike had just been too front heavy, have gone from saddle almost slammed forward to saddle almost slammed back which takes a load of weight off hands which might let stem do its job without pitching me forward all the time 🙄

Even if they did it's a 2 minute job to swap elastomers and I'm pretty sure they would be cheap to replace

Having used both flexstem and redshift, the redshift is much better. The slightly less weight of the Pro isn't really worth the extra money though

I already did. Don’t think going much lower would help much though.
Cheers Rdog, I checked your review, I think my minds made up.
Thanks folks.

I've told you before Tony, I'm more Yorkshire than you.
I'm so tight I only cry out of one eye. 😥

I’ve got one on my bombtrack hook extc. I like it.
, it takes the sting out of rougher tracks and the general buzz out of forestry tracks. It hardly looks different from the stem I had on before and you don’t notice the weight.

Got mine in a Black Friday deal and it was only a little over £100 - great deal.

The only thing that is a little odd or niggling is it can chatter a bit on braking where it dives a little if you’re on the hoods and heavy on the front brake. It might be I need to switch the elastomers but it’s not irritating enough for me to have done it so far.

I’d get another one if I bought another gravel bike!

As an alternative, I can recommend the Lauf Smoothie. Only had a few rides on it but so far have been quietly impressed. Doesn't absorb big hits, but takes away chatter and buzz quite well. I've switched from using gloves to bare hands to get a sense of what's going on and wonder if I'll actually bother going back to gloves. Wether a double wrap of tape would offer same results at quarter of the price I'm not sure.

^^^I was already running quite thick gel patches under quite thick soft tape but decided to give one a go and now wouldn't be without on the washboard/corrugated gravel roads here in Victoria Aus' for me the gel pads don't really work if on the hoods which I tend to ride a lot...bought a 2nd one for my "spare" bike...got quite a big discount...not sure if Black Friday or some other US consumer fest

Had one on my Topstone for around three years and find it helps my knackered wrist joints. Like it enough that I keep meaning to get one for my 'strictly road' bike too.
