[Closed] Recon + Poploc = No Compression Adjustment ???

Hi,

I've just had my first ride out on the Trance with my new recon 351's fitted. It came with the remote poploc lever, and it's all installed normally.

Problem is, I have no control over setting compression on the spring.
The poploc lever does have a graduated scale on it ( which does suggest I can select the optimal 'normal' compression for me)

All i have is Full travel (very wallowy and uber soft) or Locked.

Advice would be very appreciated, as I'm a wee bit upset about it.

Cheers, Cale.

the more expensive forks come with a poploc adjust with a blue dial to adjust compression. You could either get one of those on the classifieds or you can set the compression by changing where you clamp the cable on the fork though it's not convenient to adjust or set.

As Clubber says.

Some people fit an old friction thumbshifter to use instead of the poploc lever allowing the compression to be set in any position.

Yup - it's a binary system. On/off.

A simple part-solution is to set the blowout threshold low so that it will lock out just enough to stop bobbing but will give some "compression damping" on the downs when locked-out.

Not perfect, but it'll stop the forks diving at least.

Thanks for the help guys.
I'm a bit gutted to be honest, as I expected more from an expensive fork.

Just checked a few places for the lever with the dial underneath.

Seems it's discontinued 🙁

It's still available: TF Tuned list (right-hand) poploc adjust remotes for £50. They're also available in both left and right hand form from Elite Cycling online (eBay) in the US, although with shipping it's in excess of £50...

£50+ for a platic lever and some inner/outer cable, that cost about £2 to make? Pfffffft...

Thanks Jimbo,

Much appreciated.
Just need to tap the financial advisor (wife) for the extra cash.

Without the plastic lever, my forks are too lairy.
I'd swap the lever for the stanchion mounted version with compression control, but that i fear would be a bigger job.

Converting from remote- to crown-operated compression adjust/lockout can be done, either by TF OR if you've feeling brave, yourself (IIRC someone on here linked to a guide. I can't remember who/where/where, however). I believe that it involves the removal of a spring within the motion control unit.

I sold my poploc adjust for about £20 a few months ago on here. They go for about £25 on ebay

They do? I've had no luck so far.

Anyone got one? 😉
