A couple of female colleagues have expressed an interest in buying themselves mountain bikes. They're not likely to see serious
I think I've successfully impressed upon them the horrors of a sub-£200 full susser with disc brakes, but are there any good bikes out there for that sort of money?
The only other restrictions they gave me were that they'd like them to look nice, be new (rather than used) and that they'd like to go and buy them tomorrow night!
I'm thinking: Halfords?

A second hand bike would be a much better bet for that price. Or stretch the budget and get something own brand from Edinburgh bicycle co-op, base model trek rigid or something.
Second Tootin's recommendation for Mongoose. Very good vfm brand in the budget sector, and lookin particularly pretty this year. Look at the Switchback womens model at £230.
