I've done a few events so am looking to up my game a bit (maybe) next year and ride a series as well as the Gorrick at Swinley in May rather than just random events.

Whats a good one?

Gorrick do a race series too - Autumn Classics start in a fornight and then Spring series in er, spring.

And the Brass Monkeys - 3 race series of 2 or 4hr enduro format, same areas as gorrick. Nov / Dec / Jan

Oh excellent, not far from home either.

I'm assuming then at the grand old age of 40, I have a choice between Vets and Sport Male.

Vets eh.... :-/

both will be as quick as eachother... don't think going in an Oldies catagory means you'll finish any closer to the winnner... i made that mistake once too lol

Also Southern XC, a bit more spread out than the Gorrick and a bigger variety of venues. Standard is a fair bit quicker too. I haven't seen any dates yet for next year.

I am also 'moving up' to Vets next year. Although I enjoyed racing Sport for this year's Spring Series so may stick with that.

Gorricks suites as I'll be in young baby territory. If all goes well, maybe I'll give Southern XC a go in 2014.

I'm keen to try the Beastway series as well for a quick evening ride, anyone got any experience of that?

At the Gorricks, you can also do Super Vets, which is basically the same as Vets, but 4 laps instead of 3. The faster guys are nearly all in Super Vets. Jason - that's what you need to do!

There's also the Ratz Rampage series based near Reading - that runs over the summer.
