[#13535413]

Will be used for some short distance cycle touring, I don't want any padding and I don't want seams in any chafe areas.

Step one work… but I find them too warm so won’t buy anymore* I run hot though so may not be an issue for other people.

I'd bear in mind that while merino is a really nice fabric, if you get sweaty, it tends - beyond a certain point - to get quite soggy and then dries more slowly than a synthetic. If you want a good compromise, merino/polyester blends wick better, dry faster and retain the anti-stink properties of merino and also tend to last considerably longer ime, though I don't wear them for cycling. Seam position is going to be 'the thing' with that gig.

I have a few pairs of ISO BAA merino pants. They are extremely comfortable, but I've never worn them on the bike (Alpkit merino undershorts for that). However if you specifically don't want padded undershorts, I think they would work well.  I get them from sportspursuit.com where they are often on offer.  Looks like they are atm.

Update: I went with Step One bamboo trunks and a pair of Vulpine elasticated shorts on a huge Ergon saddle, it's most definitely the comfiest my butts ever been following 7 days of cycle touring with climbs a plenty 👍🏻

That's good info, I've moved across to the Vulpine padded boxers which have a very minimal pad in them. I'm considering taking the next step to wean myself off them completely on the gravel/mtb at least so I might try those! Particularly for multi-day rides or trips in the van where I'll be riding across several days having less specific kit to wash/stockpile would be handy.
