I have bought a load of camping gear and looking to do a we dry run to test everything out before an Islands trip in the summer. Initial thoughts were great glen way and possibly over the corrieyarrick but looking at the route it looks like 10 miles of pushing on the second morning.
Im in and around edinburgh but looking to get the train either Dunblane way or up to Perth / Pitlochry . Im quite happy to do 40 - 50 miles a day but it will need to end at a train station. I'd like to camp at the falls of Tarf but pretty sure it would end up being an out and back as Im not sure if you can continue east towards any stations.
As I say Its just a one nighter and I will probably head down the East Lothian coast to Tyninghame before the trip just to check stuff out. Sorry for the rambling and any ideas are appreciated.
What Corrieyairack loop gives you 10 miles of pushing?
Loch Ness 360 would be an option for you. Train to/from Inverness.
Dalwhinnie/Corrour/Rannoch area has lots of suitable options.
WHW/Rob Roy Way from Milngavie to Pitlochry.

But heading East
To be fair Colin I just plotted between Fort Augustus and Dalwhinnie and it looked like a climb for about 10 miles reaching 10%. Rob Roy way could be a good shout for a simple overnighter with plenty wee towns dotted about and Im sure somewhere off the trail to pitch the tents. Plenty of time to ponder as we cant really do much till the 26th.
I've ridden up that side of the Corrieyairack on my old 26" with panniers. It's a long but do-able climb. However, I think that route works better in the other direction. You'd end up pushing up the zig-zags but it's rideable to the foot and then you've a glorious descent all the way to FA.
I'll be doing something in the Corrour area as soon as I know the cafe is open ๐
Edit: just checked - 26th April!!!
Beinn a ghlo circuit?
From Falls of tarf you can get to aviemore station or kingussie.
Capital Trail - and ride from home.
I've ridden the Corry several times. The route north up the zigzag past Melgarve is fairly steep & loose. I reckon 30 minutes of easy hike-a-bike would get you to the summit then you get about 2500 of descent into Ft Augustus. There are also 2 bothies very close by. I did this as an out and back last year. Alternatively you could head west along towards Loch Spey and Glen Roy. You'd emerge at Roy Bridge & the train Station. There's another bothy on that route & infinite places to camp.

It's not Falls of Tarf. Just leave out the extra loop around Crieff and Loch Turret and should be good for your 8okm a day Train to from Perth.
Some good advice here and hopefully I'll get out a fair bit over the summer and hopefully over to Harris. I think Ill try the Rob Roy way first as It looks a good one to start on and lots of wee villages for supplies.
Thanks folks.
Half road but one I have done as a 2 day trip is start and finish at Pitlochry. Ride the road up Glenshee to Braemar. Stock up with grub then camp west of Linn of Dee. Enjoy Glen Tilt downhill on the way home.
Alternatively start Blair Atholl up the Gaick and camp in Glen Feshie near the bothy. Down the Tilt on Day 2.
