I've been trying to get up to the Lake District 2 or 3 times a year recently and am now looking for another ride to do, probably September(ish). I like being on top of big hills / mountains with great views. I'm rubbish at hike-a-bike but more than happy to do it if the reward is there and if the descent is too techy then I'm likely to be walking down. I'm also slow so most stuff takes me all day 🙂 Would like to do something new to me. Any must do's?

Ambleside-troutbeck-garburn-kentmere horseshoe-down nan bield-kentmere-high borrans-jenkins crag-ambleside.
Some of the finest views in lakeland all the way from Yoke to Thornthwaite IMO, and no carrying, just a bit of pushing.

Given how much legal stuff there is I'm more than happy sticking to bridleways.
+1 to Kentmere horseshoe but it's footpaths.
How about Rossett Gill - Esk Hause - Sty Head and back over Stake Pass? That's a fabulous day out and the descent from Esk Hause is awesome fun and totally rideable. All bridleway though I'd stay west of Langstrath Beck for a better path. Rossett Gill is a carry-up but Stake Pass is a push (or ride if you're amazing).
If you've not done the classic "Four Passes" that ought to go on your list. A very tough day with a lot of hike-a-bike. Hugely satisfying.

Not a problem. Just trying to avoid hike-a-bike for no reward (which also means I'll probably only ride on a nice sunny day as getting to the top of a mountain in the clouds is a bit disappointing!)

The best of the north lakes is cheeky, but a lovely trip out that is mostly legal is Stonethwaite (in borrowdale) Stake pass (Stay west of the beck up Langstrath as mentioned above) then cheekily across to angle tarn, BW climb to Ask cause then the awesome and not too tech descent from there via styhead to Seathwaite. Braithwaite, Whinlatter climb south loop, hop over fence and climb Grisedale Pike, Hopegill head, Coledale Hause, Whiteless Pike, Buttermere back via sail beck and rigg beck.
Lowey's suggestion is good, could also return from Buttermere via gasgale gill, Grisedale pike, Hobcarton end.

I was going to do Skiddaw up and back but not sure on weather for that (I want views if I climb that high).

Whinlatter climb south loop, hop over fence and climb Grisedale Pike
I was up there last week working and got chatting to some other riders at the top of the South loop climb and they reckoned it was a half an hour hike from there upto Grisedale pike. Is it worth doing and are there any easy to find good descents that bring you back somewhere near the trail centre?
Just asking as I'm up there working again tomorrow and Friday and was thinking of doing something other than just the north & south loops of Whinlatter.

I'm up garburn tomoz too, plus hp and three Rivers. Hope you know it's northern craft beer festival at Hawkshead brewery!? 😆

@richardkennerley I didn't know that, but then I'm intolerant to alcohol! (Still like it, just drink really infrequently now).
I'll be on the blue charge fatty if you see me, although I'm debating doing the Loughrigg/Langdale loop I did last time I was up there as I really enjoyed that.
Helvellyn: up Grisedale and carry up Dollywagon and down from Sticks to Seldom Seen.
Works well as a figure of 8 with Satura Crag & Angle Tarn

er, yes. Also cheeky.
Mark Brewer, from top of grisedale pike, head to hobcarton end and follow the trail back to the tree line. Follow your nose right and you'll find a nice descent to near the start of the south loop singletrack, or continue straight but track has been spoiled somewhat by forestrywork. Disclaimer: nav to find the start of the track over to hobcarton can be slightly tricky in clag, but if you mess it up you'll find yourself coming down the grisedale fell race route (the Wall) which isn't too bad. All cheeky.
