Ok building up a do it all bike, i want a rim with a bit of colour about it and able to handle my 14.5-15 stone.

Was looking at Hope Pro2 with Flows in white but came across the American Classic All Mountain wheelset no experience of either sooo opinions?

Any other suggestions and deals also as budget is restrained.

The flows will be fine. If they are Hope hoops just make sure they have good tension.

I have sold lots of sets to people your weight and some and they have been just the job.

You aren't nearly a big bloke - quite lightweight really. Flows can cope with anything you can do to them.

It's as much to do with the quality of the build as well. No issues on XC717's here, & Pro2 hubs are bomb proof, but then again my 100kg hasn't ever trashed a Shimano hub either, although Deores needed more regular fettling.

I am nearer 20 stone than 15 and running Hope/on one hubs with Mavic 521s on the 26er and a wheelset I built myself from some Nukeproof hubs going cheap on CRC at the time and 29er Flows on the 29er. Also used On one 26er and 29er wheelsets in the past without trouble. Flows and 521s allow wider tyres than the xc717. Agree about the hope hubs and the quality of the build as well. I just find the rear hope ratchet too noisy for my tastes although others seem to think its the highlight of their day.

I'm a similar weight and have been riding XC717's on Hope hubs for years with zero issues. Just one or two nipple tweaks here and there after rocky rides in Wales or the Lakes and that's it.

As said above, it's the quality of the build that counts. Decent spokes, brass nipples put together by someone experienced will last; regardless of who is riding them.

Another recommendation for Mavic EN521's on Pro 2's, mine get a regular beating, as said previously a good wheel builder is just as important as the components themselves. If going online then Merlin tend to be good for custom builds.

My Hope 521's have been great and straight for years.

Halos SAS Pro in white? Here Know the seller and he's a good bloke.

I'm a similar weight and run a rear SAS (48 spokered goodness) on my hardtail which gets plenty of stick. Mangled a few of the above rear wheels but had no issues with this.

My balls did this (ouch!)

Not the lightest wheel, but one of the strongest.

Friend who's closer to 17st also runs a set.
