Hello,

Following help on this thread where I asked for advice on where to take a big two week cycling holiday a meeting was held and the following is the shortlist:

US - Colorado
US - Idaho
US - Oregon
US - California
Canada - Vancouver Island and the Sunshine Coast
Canada - Whistler, Pemberton, Chilcotins, Squamish

We are looking at options to arrange some and maybe all of the holiday ourselves but are also thinking about potential tours and guiding we could join as we have had a great experience of this in the past. Potential companies and guides we could think of below, are there any others or recommendations of these:

Ticket2RideBC
BushPilotBiking - Looks a bit hardcore?
CogWild
Sacred Rides - Have ridden with them before, brilliant! Not sure the dates of trips suit this time
Western Spirit - Have heard riding distances can be a bit short, true?
Hermosa Tours

We are looking for a mix of riding but not 100% bike park. Don't mind climbing but also happy to have the odd uplift.

Any additional suggestions and particularly recommendations gratefully received.

keppoch.

You know the big question is "is it just a biking holiday"

If not, go to California
If it is, California would be a great choice

I would say it is an 80% biking holiday.

I actually know the least and have found the least on cycling in California, so if you know more please share. I assume a trip there would include San Fransisco.

Johnny Smoke at Bush Pilot is a good guy and knows more about BC trails (and 1st aid....) than all the other companies put together. So if you want to ride here with a guide who hasn't just had to study the map before (and even during....) the ride in order to work out where to go, then it's a no-brainer.

You've probably found the least on mountain biking in California because it's either banned or fireroadtastic!

Walleater - that was something I wondered, have you ridden there and had that issue? But then there was a video a couple of weeks ago of Brian Lopes razzing round some Laguna Beach trails and saying what a great place it was to ride. To be fair if I could ride as well as him anywhere becomes a good place to ride!

Not to do too much shameless self promtion, but please add us to your list.

We are Whistlers only tenured guiding company and the only ones to offer a half board catered and guided accommodation package in Whistler.
We also just partnered with Tyax Air/Sky Camp and will soon be bringing you a 2 week (1 week Whistler, 1 week multi hut to hut Chilcotin) adventure.

Please feel free to drop us a line if you have any questions

Regards
Jonny @ Bear Back Biking

Greetings from Bend, Oregon!
I saw on your other post that you are traveling the last two weeks of August, which is THE BEST TIME to come to Central Oregon!
You can easily spend two weeks in this amazing state, and here is an idea:
Fly into Portland (PDX)and rent a car/van that can carry your bikes. Drive to Hood River, a hour away to ride Post Canyon (downhill, bike parky) and the singletrack south of town. I would give yourself two days here. There is great food, places to stay or camping, beer and great riding!
Then drive south 2.5 hours to Bend. Give yourself 5 days here. At the end of August all the trails are open and you can ride high country alpine singletrack all the way back to Bend, loosing over 3000ft of elevation in your ride (shuttle to the top, you will be riding over 30 miles). From Bend you can also shuttle the McKenzie River Trail, which is lush, technical and awesome! You will also want to take a rest day to rent a canoe and go to one of the amazing lakes: pack a picnic and float surrounded by mountains and swim in crystal clear warm water... it is amazing. Michael Franti is playing in Bend August 22nd as well..
From Bend you will want to drive 1.5 hours south-west to Waldo Lake. This is a secret gem of Oregon's, one that is covered in mosquitoes until the end of August when they disappear and the riding is amazing. You can camp on the lake, one of the three clearest lakes in the world and watch amazing sunsets. Spend two days here riding the loop around the lake and to the top of some of the local peaks for a great view of the area and a downhill ride you dream about!
From here, carry on 30 minutes to Oakridge. Where Bend is more flowy singletrack (expect for our slalom track and a few downhillish trails), Oakridge is more downhill and technical. The trails are amazing as well, and different from Bend and Hood River. Again more great beer and river swimming. There are great places to stay or camp here too.. I would give yourself 3 days to ride in Oakridge.
If you go this route we can help plan your time, give ideas on who to rent cars with, places to stay and camp, etc.. In Oakridge is Oregon Adventures and Randy is who you will want to talk to about shuttling the trails there. From here you can drive direct back to Portland to fly home..
Oregon has no sales tax, is awesome and a great place to spend two weeks! Things are not too spread out, so you won't be spending too much time driving between locations, everything is less than 3 hours away from each other. It is also beautiful country, not city, but mountains, desert, lush forest and beautiful water, you can't go wrong!!
Cheers!- Melanie ๐Ÿ™‚
