ok
so I have @ £1000 to spend and I want to upgrade to a full susser for xc and singletrack. I'm not a stunt monkey or a race type so 4" of travel is good for me. Every time I think I got it sorted something else comes along to tempt and then I get all confused again.
I want something that is reasonable specced and climbs well as at 14stone I'm not much of a lightweight myself. So guys, any suggestions?

Stumpy FSR??

Some decent deals on 08 models.

Loads o'choice, or go bling and buy 2nd hand 🙂

I guesed full bike. A grand for a frame opens up a realm of possibility.

Second the 2008 Stumpy or a Trek Fuel EX if your budget is £1000 all in.

Giant Trance if you're defo after something with "only" 4 inches.

If you don't mind a bit more travel and a bit more fun, the Cannondale Prophet 2 is only £1075 or therabouts.

For something else how about looking at a Kona 4. Seen some good prices on last year's model for those as well.

Good solid bike that will handle plenty of abuse 🙂

The Prophet 2 was already on the list I like the idea of the propedal shock which is absent on the 09 Spesh at the same price

I have to admit I hadn't heard of the Brodie but I like the look of it. I've just read a few complimentary reviews but have a few concerns that the monarch rear shock has no lock out or propedal option. Having said that you are only a hop and a skip up the road from me so I may well take a run over in the week if that is ok.

I had an 07 stumpy comp, you can get them for under £700 now second hand i believe, for the money its a brilliant bike and can leave other riders on lighter better specced bikes behind, That was my fave thing about it, It zipps along like a loon

It'd leave you with £300 to spend on upgrades, which i would go with Wheels and crankset like i did, It made it so much better not having cranks that flexed and lighter wheels

Take a look at Kona Four Deluxe Nissan models and Norco Faze 2's.

The norcos come with full XT groupset, Reba Race's and RP23 at the rear and a 4 bar FSR set-up, can be had at about £1050.
