My brother wants to get back into riding as a lot of his mates are hitting the peaks, lakes and welsh trail centres (lives in Manchester). I'm completely out of touch with this price bracket but he's not the most experienced rider although he can ride pretty well, needs to large or xl frame, hydraulic discs, I'm thinking a 5 inch trail bike around the 28-30lb trail bike would be ideal. I suspect a 2011 or even 2010 bike from Paul's Cycles or somesuch might be favourite for the best value, he'd like to keep it to a grand but would push it to 1500 for a really nice one. Possibly consider a used bike as long as it was in excellent nick. I also see a fair few Cubes and Felts around these days, worth a look? Talk to me STW forum!

Aye, it does look good value but it's not my money I'm spending - I like the look of this one!

Cheers fellas. Seems the warranty on the Canyons isn't great...

Couple of comments on the Bikeradar page complaining about it. Still, there's always complaining on the internet about customer service from every firm out there. Except Turner. Did I mention I've just bought a DW 5 spot? Hurrah for me!

I'm happy with my Camber but I got mine reduced last year and this year has seen a price hike (even after the red stripe sale or whatever). Cube are doing a 29er Full susser that looks good VFM for £1500, might be handy if he's tall and wants to be on trend! 😉
