Driveable probably means France - Ardeche / Massif Central
Otherwise Spain / Italy / Slovenia / Croatia?

Overnight ferry from Portsmouth to St. Malo. Ride east/north along the Normandy coast. Get a ferry back to Portsmouth when you've had enough. Plenty of accomodation/camping, interesting WW2 history and logistically pretty easy.
