Thinking of fixing pair of flat pedals instaed of SPDs as with likely continuation cold weather am thinking of riidng wearing 3 season walking boots to keep feet warmer and allow quicker removal of feet in event of slither. A budget of up to £30; seen MKS MT pedals at less than £20, or Felt BackPedal reduced to £30. Any thoughts?

Wellgo V8 copies are about £10 and reasonable.
oh forgot to ask about how wide pedals would be for a hiking boot.......
As above wellgo's V8's
Wellgo MG1s can be had for a smidge over 30 quid, and I find them much better than the V8s I had before. Even if Jedi says they're too soft...
Thanks for advice soem V8 s on order, for amount of use I may put them to £12 ain`t a bad investment; and the red will clash gently with the a black SLX chainset and a blue BFe frame!
Don't forget to pull off the end cap and fill it with grease.
I did find that my wellgo v8 copies don't stick to my Karrimore cheapy hiking shoe things. I spend more time with my shoes bouncing off the pedals than on,
Love my DMR V8's at about £22
Wellgo B27's nice big platform and very grippy:

Got some Wellgo V8 copies (I think, that or V12's) in the summer for family, trailer bike rides, never got round to putting them on until day before yesterday on the singlespeed so I could ride with walking boots on, same idea as you.
Couldn't believe how "sticky" they were, real effort to reposition my feet, had to lift off and put foot back to reposition, thats with Meindl MPS sommat-or-other boots.
lol@ thepurist.
If you can stretch a bit more, go for the Superstar flats at £40.
They are absolutely brilliant flat pedals and have a much larger platform than V8s and their copies.
Get the Thru-pin pedals, as you can then take the pins out and replace them with longer grub screws from a Hadley BML or a decent fastener's shop for peanuts if they don't grip your shoes properly.
If not grab V8s. Wellgo copies are NOT the same as the DMR ones. Wellgo USED to make the V8/V12 for DMR, but the ones that have been available for the last three years or so have been made in-house by DMR themselves. The bearings are of a higher quality, the platform is better and the pins actually offer some grip (I've had the Wellgo ones and they were absolute rubbish!).
V12s would be better as they're cartridge bearing and thus infinitely rebuildable, but for that money I'd bag some Superstar ones.

I like wellgo B38's , nice big platform and very grippy in fact so grippy that sometimes I forget I'm not using SPD's on the bouncy bike.
First outing today on V8s, in the snow, anyone got good tips on how best to ride with them? wearing walking boots found my feet slipped all over pedal unless riding on outer two thirds section only; having used SPDs for 15yr + advice on transition to flat pedals needed
place your foot on the pedal with the axel behind the ball of your foot
I'm struggling to see how V8s could be anything other than grippy, unless your boots are made of Teflon. Mine bite like a Jack Russell with its danglies in a vice. What state are the soles of your boots in?
Relax your lower leg so your ankle flexes easily to absorb shocks and your heels stay down (most of the time!)
Well for what it's worth I've got Wellgo MG1s on one bike and DMR V8s on another. While the V8s grip they are nowhere near as grippy as the MG1s. Same shoes as well.
boot soles are very chunky so what I think may be happening is that the pedal spikes are not biting at all places into the sole, ie teh pedal spikes are between boot soles lugs ; when I tried pedals with sandals, (indoors), the flat soles of the sandals locked onto the pedals much better than my boot soles
