With bits of my Astra constantly breaking, it's definitely time to splash out on something new on PCH. Needs to be in the region of £2500-£2700 cost per year over 2 years so the amount of deposit isn't important, just the total cost.
About to test a Fiesta ST then going to see a man about an Ibiza Cupra. Any great deals around for something similar?
Found an amazing deal on a Pug 208gti but can't track one down to test. Called my local friendly VW dealer yesterday who offered to let me sit in the one in the showroom but definitely can't test one - coming in over budget anyway.
Or if someone wants to lend me £16k there's a lovely Nissan Juke Nismo sat here looking at me funny......
Corsa VXR are about £215p/m at the minute
VW are offering the Polo GTI at about that price for a personal lease over 24 months - the catch is mileage. It's only 5k pa. But you should be able to get the extra mileage a 6 ppm inc. VAT.
If you look around there are some amazing deals on the Golf R (and estate)
Around £200 per month!
Have a look on Pistonheads, there is a best leasing deals thread under general gassing
The Golf R deals are no longer available.
Thanks folks.
Polo GTI is coming in cheaper than the Fiesta ST (by £170 p.a.) cheaper than the Ibiza Cupra (by £460 p.a.) and I've ruled out the Peugeot 208gti as there isn't one anywhere to demo and still comes in more expensive than the Polo anyway.
Dealer said the Golf R deal was pulled after 2 days as all the stock was gone - not bloody surprised at that price!
I have just taken out a lease on a 208Gti Prestige for my wife. 9+23 @ £150.55 per month with 8k PA, which was the best deal I could find. If it had been for me I would have gone for the Peugeot Sport model which was about £10 a month cheaper. Found a Peugeot dealer who had one we could test drive, and it seems a decent fun little car, we have bought it to replace a Mini Cooper S, and it seems an equal but with slightly softer suspension. Our mini is on 18" alloys so a fairly firm ride, so the Pug seems better in that respect. I gave the dealer the opportunity to get near the lease price, but they were coming in at £1.5k more expensive over the two years on less miles. Also saw the cheap deals on the Polo, but wasn't as keen.
The Golf R deal was on an Estate and was much more expensive.
There are a few deals around on the Scirocco if you want something like that.
Let me know if you want details of where the deals I found came from.
Thanks for that - where's the dealer with a 208GTI to demo? Price looks perfect aswell if you have a link?
I'd go for the Fiesta over Polo any day!
They want to stop you having fun in VW's, they don't let you left foot brake 🙁
The one we test drove was in Godalming, Surrey. It was a 6 month old car they had for sale. I went to have a look as I wanted to see the matt grey finish. We got offered a test drive in it. Worth seeing if any local dealers have a 2nd hand one, as there are quite a few low mileages cars in the dealer network. Actually looked at leasing the car we tested but is cheaper to go for a new one...
I ordered the 208Gti Prestige from Gateway2Lease. There is an admin fee as well, but they knocked that off due to messing up the first quote they sent me. The price on the website is slightly different, but I asked for a quote and they came back with a slightly better price. So far I have been very impressed with the service they have provided. I am currently in the 14 day cooling off period, but the car is in stock so hopefully delivered towards the end of next week.
For the 208Gti by Peugeot Sport the cheapest I found was Total Fleet Services (carleasespecialoffers.co.uk) I spoke to Dan there and he quoted £143.47 (inc VAT) per month with no admin fee. 9+23 and 6k miles. That price isn't on there website but worth giving him a call if you are interested.
simpsons Skoda are doing some mega deals on the Octavia VRs 230 edition. right in the £200 per month on 0% PCP

highly tempted myself
New polo here it's lovely .. Super quick and not too shouty 😀
Grown ups racer if you will 😉
I had the previous version too 1.4 twin charger this is way more fun with manual box ..
I have a Skoda Fabia VRS twincharger which is similar to the pre-facelift Polo.
If I'd had the money I'd definitely have had the Fiesta ST instead. Handling is sharper, even if power is a bit down, and it's more fun to drive. The Polo is good, but the ST is better. Interior's a mess, though.
If the ST works out more expensive then the Polo would tempt me but definitely not if the ST is cheaper.
The 208 GTi would tempt me but I've never driven one.
And you can left foot brake in my VRS.
Or if someone wants to lend me £16k there's a [s]lovely[/s] pig ugly Nissan Juke Nismo sat here looking at me [s]funny[/s] like a crosseyed frog......
Just get the Fiesta, by all accounts very entertaining to drive.
Cupra got knicked doing 150mph the other day - so they are certainly fast
I was all set on a Fiesta, but was hugely disappointed with the interior. It's beyond awful.
By contrast the Polo GTI interior is superb. Really up to Golf standard except for a couple of the lower dash surfaces.
VW will have the most grown up feel and nicest interior
Fiesta ST for the win though, won most of the hot hatch group tests

Just got one to replace the Clio 182 - tis very good!
as Evo say, it looks like the stereo layout was designed when someone sneezed on the dashboard, but tbh I've found myself giving zero shits about that once it's moving.
And you can left foot brake in my VRS.
To be fair I've not driven the 'hot' versions of VAG cars, but the standard / slightly powerful ones, as soon as you touch the brake pedal it kills all power from the engine.
How many current DBW throttle cars don't cut the power when the brake pedal is pressed?
My BMW doesn't do it, neither does my Fiesta.
I think they probably both do (BMW, certainly). However, it may be on a timer so dabs of the brake won't cut power but longer braking will.
Shiv, what was the Golf R deal? Been looking at one but seems like I've missed it.
The recent Golf R deals worked out at around £6,700 for 24 months, with 5k miles allowed PA. Excess mileage was fairly reasonable. I briefly looked at them but didn't want to spend that much. The deal was around for a few days before all the cars were allocated.

That's not the same deal I saw. It was £1,500 down, £205/month with a far more useful 8,000miles/year
Gagh would have had that

Why would you not want engine power cut when your foot is on the brake? Surely you want no engine power??
(and anyway, in the Fabia VRS, the engine is supercharged so you’ll have full power as soon as foot back on accelerator - no turbo lag)
Rachel (ex VRS now BMW 325i and something fast...)

Left-foot braking is for cornering under power. If the driver doesn't want to lift off the throttle, potentially causing trailing-throttle oversteer, left-foot braking can induce a mild oversteer situation, and help the car "tuck", or turn-in better. Mild left-foot braking can also help reduce understeer.
I've just handed back my ST after 2 years of lease ownership and I loved every minute of it, but I've bought a much more bike-friendly VW Caddy in it's place. I think the total cost of ownership was roughly £2,800 p/a excluding servicing but the I'd imagine the monthlies now would be less than the £189 I was paying.
Pros: Quick enough to overtake most things on the road, brilliant handling, extremely supportive seats, 40+ MPG is no problem at all, don't sound too bad for a 1.6 4-pot.
Cons: the ride is hard around town, although this makes for a great drive when 'pushing on' as they say. Avoid potholes like the plague. The space with the rear seats down isn't particularly big so I found myself either taking both wheels off the bike or leaving the back wheel in and having to wedge the bike in and covering the car in mud. They're common as muck now though and mostly driven by snapback-wearing oiks (and this is coming from a 28 year old).
All in all, would I have one again? Absof*ckinglutely.
Thanks folks, gone for the Polo GTI - works out at £2627 per year and a much nicer place to be than the fiesta ST.
Fair enough, more grown up, but doesn't drive as well
