Okay, it doesn't have to be absolutely silent but it mustn't make the content clicking that some peoples wheels do and it mustn't make the graunching grinding noise my current hub makes.

If it comes already built in a wheel that is good. If you can post a link that is even better.

If it costs less than 150 built up that is a result

get a hope and keep pedalling 😉

Are you looking for std 135 QR with a 26" rim for general xc type riding?

[edit] If only someone was selling a silent hub in the classifieds;

You'll still be able to hear everyone else's free wheeling (at least 3 of use have pro 2s on the back on Thursdays).

I'll be freeing up a wheel with a hope xc on it when I fit my alfine. Wanna give it a go and see it that is quiet enough (much less noise than a pro 2)?

any hub where the ratchet/star device/clutch thingy is in the freewheel not the hub. Shimano fits the bill.

I have a pair of XT hubs with Mavic 719 rims on them that probably fit your criteria for noise and some beefiness.

Could do for £95 posted the pair?

XT/Arch/DT Comps from Merlin would seem to fit the bill.

The hubs on my Fulcrum red metals are virtually silent.

Think they were for £200 for a pair of 29ers so ok for budget.

I was about to suggest DT Swiss but someone has beaten me to it. Not cheap though.

Nixie - my ankle is almost working now so you won't have a chance to freewheel. And yes, it is you lot with your Clicky hubs that make me hateHope

:D, be glad none us ride a 5 or similar, they seem to amplify the noise even more.

I have a Commencal hub on my Meta SX - it's pleasantly quiet, especially compared to the Pro2s I used to have. I guess the Commencals are Novatech unless they build their own?

my DH bike had a Ringle Abbah SOS hub....it made an absolute racket...sounded like one of those football clackers from yesteryear...but i loved the sound it made especially at high speed...
had a deore hub on another bike that was completely silent...very spooky..
you could always pack the freehub body with grease to shut it up...

I can recommed DT Swiss, they don't make much noise at all, just a contented purr.

If you want quiet, then True Precision Stealth Hubs is where it's at.

Can't here anything other than some tinny music in the background

My DTs are both quieter than Hope but not exactly quiet...

Formula do a pretty nice cartridge hub which turns up in some OEMs, I don't know if you can buy it in the aftermarket though- it's damn near silent and spins foreeeeever. Not that light, though, and only QR.
