I want to get my son a balance bike for christmas. He's a big 3 1/2. He hasn't shown much interest in scooters and bikes until recently and to say he wasn't naturally athletic would be an understatement.
He's not fat or lazy. He's just naturally untalented like his dad. I think he'll enjoy sport but just be crap at it like me.
Balance bikes seem to be the best way to go and he'll be getting a hand-me-down Rohan from his cousins soon so buying an ordinary bike and removing the pedals is probably a waste.
this has been done a few times. Do a search on bikes like 'kokua' and 'hotwalk' and 'rothan' and they'll pop up.
Mine had a Kokua which was ace, if not quite perfect. I added a front brake after a while, and changed the tyres to knobbies for offroading. Initially the seat was a tad high so I trimmed the seatpost to drop it.
At that age, normal bike of the right size and take the pedals / cranks off.
Decathlon do a plastic one for £30 which is great.
