I'm wanting a soft shell for those cold but not wet winter rides, I purchased an Endura Convert but, erm, the rather tight fitting doesnt match my 40 year old anti six pack figure..

can anyone recommend a soft shell with a more "trail" cut ?

Cheers.

Endura Stealth is a nice slim fit, gets my vote.

The phantom is bloody hot though, even in winter

If you've got a Decathlon nearby, have a look at one of these.

It's the material not the brand that matters. Go cheap. Go Regatta.

That Endura Convert is fantastic.. wish it would have fit me.. but will work really well for a slimmer gent.

A cheaper alternative to Don Simon's suggestion is the Forclaz 900 again from Decathlon, for £30. Seemingly the same material from the info on the website, no hood but same useful pitzips, though lacks hem drawcord which is a bit rubbish.
Great jacket, used mine throughout last winter, as I couldn't justify spending £90 for a Gore/Endura softshell, just to 'try'. Didn't ride in any huge rain storms, so can't tell how waterproof it really is, but was fine in showers I got caught by (I do ride in the rain, but was lucky last winter). There a fleese lined "warm" version too, but TBH I found this version more than warm enough, and used the pitzips all the time.

Edit: they also do for this year a "Forclaz 900 cuddly", which is seemingly Don's jacket but without the hood for a £5 less.

I've had a dare2b one for a couple of years now, very comfy, well made, and relatively cheap.
