[Closed] Reasons for upgrading bike parts

I want some Ultegra brakes calipers for my road bike.
I would also like an Ultegra chainset.
The brakes and chainset on my Cube Agree are perfectly fine - they are non-series parts that sit between Tiagra and 105 I think.
New Ultegra won't make me any faster/better/more appealing to the opposite sex.
So why can't I shake the 'I want' thing when there probably wouldn't be a noticeable difference other than my bike will 'feel' better with Ultegra on it (rear mech already is - shifters and front mech 105).
Is this just a vanity/look thing and does anyone get the same thing when 'needing' an upgrade? Just curious...

Sometimes it is needed, upgrading broken parts rather than a like for like replacement.

Other times it is a worthy upgrade, like a dropper post or wider bars

Alot of the times the new parts just look very shiny and I convince myself I need it: XTR rear mech, Anodised Hope kit etc.

The road bike however I don't get the urge to upgrade anything. The only thing I did was to put a red tartan saddle on, cos it looks nice!

Ultegra for the road bike, XTR for the mountain bike.

Saves all the messing about.

Will make **** all difference as you said but keeps online retailers in single figure profits.

Actually it will feel worse as the calipers need 20% more cable pull than old style levers.

Simple answer is western consumerism and the continual search for contentment through possessions.

Have you thought about buddhism?

Chainset will be a worthy upgrade - do it now and stop prevaricating.

Hmmm...Al - never considered that.
Would that apply to 6800 only or the slightly older 6700 too?
The chainset would need to be 6700 as that's 10 and not 11 speed...any deals about?

If you're running a 10spd group then you need the brakes from the 6700 group.
I've fitted 11spd chainsets on 10speed groups and the work fine. They are however a slightly different colour.

I've always found 105 brakes shite in the wet, and I was told that Ultegra were better. So I got some from ebay of the same vintage as the rest of my bike and.. well.. they are significantly better, but still can't magically cut through a film of water on the rim.

I'm in a quandry now since my warranty replacement frame and forks are red and black, but the stem is still the white one from the previous frameset. Do I care enough to spend £20 on a stem that is simply a different colour?
