What's the minimum sensible clearance to run between the rear rotor & chainstay?

Standard rotor size on my bike is 160mm, which has about 3-4mm clearance, and has never caused any problems, I've tried a 180mm on there and gap is only 1-2mm at most, it[i] just [/i]clears.

To me, it looks too close & like it could clog & get stuff stuck in there.

Any thoughts?

I don't think rotors really get filthy since they "wipe" through the pads. If the stay got mud on it I reckon the rotor would stop it building up in that area but I guess maybe, if it was a really mucky day, ...

a buckled rotor could do some digging but I think you'd be pretty unlucky to see that

If the stay flexed a lot you might just get rubbing, but it's bloody close to the hub and I doubt you'd see it at that point
