Have a look at the mudguard mount and tell me if you see anything wrong with it.

That's not really a mudguard mount anyway, it's just the welding vent hole. If you need a hole the "right" way you could just drill one, it's fairly basic steel.

mudguards ! .... how old are you ? ..... washing machines were invented so that we didn't have to fit mudguards, now go and get dirty - it's what mtb was invented for !!

ps. lovely bike :0)

I did mod a rear guard to bolt through one of those holes - It was one I got through halfrauds

Has it been put in the frame upside down or something?

Not upside down, but 90 degrees out - we think. There are at least two bikes like that, mine and the one road.cc reviewed. Was wondering if they are indeed meant to be like that.

Aaaaaaah. I think it may be ok. I remember my Kaffenbak was like that, you have to take the rear wheel out and drill a hole through the guard. You can then mount it at that point with a single invisible bolt. I had to get a dome headed Allen bolt as a cap head one fouled the tyre - but it looked so neat and tidy without the metal bracket and visible bolt.
If you are using an SKS guard then drilling a hole will let water in-between the layers of the guard and it'll ruin the look of it (sort of internal corrosion it looks like). I think if you smeared some silicone sealant around the hole you've drilled it'd probably stop that happening.
