Helping my girlfriend with her basic-level hybrid.

The rear mech (particularly the jockey wheels) have seen better days. But as the jockey wheels are unusually sized, replacements are hard to find.

Here's my question:

With a 'MegaRange' 7 speed cassette - the one with huge leap between 1st and 2nd gears, is there a real need to use the odd-looking Tourney rear mech with the huge (15T?) jockey wheel(s)?

Can I just fit a better quality 'normal' mech like an Alivio?

Ta.

Yes, I've done it on a friend's bike before

Interesting, we always have clearance issues on GT and Kona bikes with Alivio mechs, even with full B-tension the jockeys rub on the 32t.

This has to work with a 34T cassette.
