[Closed] Rear Derailleur Indexing

I've just fitted a new 105 10 speed groupset and I can't for the life of me to get the rear derailleur indexing smoothly, it keeps skipping around the middle of the cassette. Any bright ideas on what I could be doing wrong? I'm thinking:
- mech hanger bent (I don't think it looks bent)
- something hanging up on the gear cable (still feel smooth and skipping happens on the down shift too)

I'm using:
- 105 5700 11-28 cassette
- 105 5701 medium cage rear derailleur
- Sram PC1091 10 speed chain
- Tiagra 4700 sti levers

It's my wifes bike and she's wanted to go back to a triple so I've needed to go back to 10 speed. everything is new bar the cable outers and inners.

The hanger looks bent in the photo.

You'd have to check the compatibility charts but I believe tiagra 4700 is a different cable pull to 105 5700.

compatibility chart here...

I thought 4700 tiagra was special/new and not compatible with anything else, only itself. 4600 and 5700 work together though.

You haven't replaced the cables. That will be your problem. Cables are often the issue. Replace the outers too

That hanger is definitely bent.

5700 mechs and 4700/4703 shifters don't work together. You'll need a 4700 rear mech, and a 4703 front mech.

You could have gone 11-34 with the 4700 mech, and saved the need for the triple.

I'd second cable outers. Everyone jumps on bent derailleur hangers, but in my experience, cable friction in the last outer is more often the culprit.

The fact you can see the mech hanger is bent sort of points towards it being a bent mech hanger.
And the 4700 comparability thing.

Mech hanger and cables - irrelevant.

The derailleur you have is not compatible with the shifter. Tiagra 4700 is the same pull ratio as 105 11 speed. Assuming you want to keep the shifter, you either need a 4700 series derailleur, or an 11 speed 105 series derailleur.

As others have said, the rear mech isn't compatible with the shifter.

For the record, the mech hanger does look bent but without seeing it I can't tell how badly. Make sure this is sorted when you put the right mech on our it'll be tricky to set up and more sensitive to wear and muck.

Thanks everyone, coincidentally I had a tiagra mech, I fitted it and had it indexed perfectly within a few tweaks! Annoyed I spent so long trying to get the 105 working!

Probably shouldn’t have put that pic up, don’t think the iphone has done the perspective any good don’t think the mech is bent, will stick a new one on if I get shifting issues.

Bike whisper, tell that to my wife! I’m replacing an 11 spd 105 setup with an 11-32 and double, should have the same range but she wants a triple. It’s a winner if it means we can stop having arguments about horrible chain line choices...

(I ordered a tiagra drive train then decided perhaps wrongly so that the old 105 bits I could get hold of would be nicer, couldn’t get shifters. Luckily the tiagra stuff hadn’t yet been returned)
