Just fitted a 9 speed shifter (shimano SL-M511)to my wifes bike that was 8 speed (9 speed chain and cassette fitted also).
Front working fine, but the rear only seems to be changing 3 or 4 times in the shifter and then it stops as if it's reached the end of its travel.
Any thoughts.... she's supposed to be riding later tonight 😯
You had got it in the 9th gear position when you fitted the cable hadn't you?
........fitted the cable to the shifter? if so, cable was already fitted when I got it. Should I take it off and refit?
Stick it in the smallest rear cog (and keep clicking the shifter a couple of times after that) - if there's loads of slack cable then tighten it up.
Plus there are adjustment screws on the rear mech to stop it pushing the chain into the spokes - they might need a tweak too.
Undo the cable at the mech.
Make sure the shifter's in 9th gear then tighten the cable.
"then tighten the cable"
And use pliers to give it a decent pull, not your hands
Sorted........ took the cover off the shifter and the end of the cable wasn't seated correctly and was getting jammed. Just need to fine tune now.
Thanks for the speedy replies guys 😀
