My Langster was £225 2nd hand and could be used as a commuter if it was more convenient for me! Its been one of the best bike-related buys I've had, it accelerates so easily and makes road riding really enjoyable.

Just look out for a bargain on here/ebay unless you're buying new.

My first fixed lasted 4 years of near daily riding - set me back about £150 - this was a nice Benotto frame, cost included Brooks saddle and powdercoating.

Needed to get one on finance due to cashflow problems when the Benotto died, so got one of the Onza Unos from Wiggle - under £400 and going very strong. Should see me through the next 4 years.

i bought a steel road bike off gumtree for a tenner. spent £70 on wheels & tyres from decathlon + a bit more for odds & ends...i reckon £130-£150. looks like crap but that's a good thing i think - have no qualms about leaving outside the pub on a friday night!
