Looking at bits for my new build, looking for a sub 35mm stem, renthal apex 31mm is the main option ive found nothing much else seems available. 31.8 clamp.
Anything ive missed?
The lightweight 30mm wonder that is Syntace, obviously.
Only seems to be available from syntace direct for 120 euros 😯
Ebay from Bikewagon for half that
Syntace are nice. And also probably scored really highly in a test Syntace invented.
Onoff stoic nice too.
I got a thomson for about £50 at xmas, is nice. Doubt its light of course, but should be sturdy enough.
Think I might just go for 35mm, a lot more choice for the sake of a few mm
If you were hoping to keep the weight down and spec up, then it would be worth taking a close look at 35mm bars since you're buying a new stem and bars anyway.
In every case I've seen, length for length the 35mm bars are lighter than their 31.8 equivalents. Whether they are less flexy or not is a matter for rad'er riders than me to discuss, but everything points to them being a better product from an engineering point of view. Probably not revolutionary enough to be worth punting perfectly good bars and stems for to get the improvment, but better enough that they should be on your 'to look at' list if buying new bits.
