Got an old Marin frame, well used but sound, plenty of scrapes + scratches, decals mostly all gone, wouldn't mind it looking a bit more presentable (its from 96 or so,that pale gold beige shade with blue bars/stem /forks).
Stripped it, lightly rubbed down and a degrease, then what ?
Figured some dabs of Kilrust on bare metal then a primer, rub down again then 2 coats of (mid grey ?) paint, finished with a coat of lacquer, - will this do ?
Ordinary motor factors car paint be ok ? or smooth Hammerite ? Ordinary car primer be ok?
Dont expect perfection or to last forever, just look better than it does now.
Any tips or suggestions welcome.
Cheers, D.
Give it a wipe over with some cellulose thinner
Warm the frame up as much as you can
Put the cans in a bucket of hot water for 5 mins before use
The more coats of primer the better, thin and light application any celulose or acrylic based grey primer will do.
leave for many hours to dry
For the top coat use monster paint - a high gloss paint at a great price (perhaps get a few nozzles as they are prone to block). again thin and light application plenty of time between coats.

and finish off with clear lacquer lightly applied from a distance.
Have done it a couple of times, is bloody messy...garage full of dust afterwards & easily £20 on paint etc.
Best advice...save your cash & get it shot-blasted & powder coated.
