Got a pair of HH rain pants, but they're not well suited for biking.

What's good value out there? Using them over my normal pants. Should last a while, reinforcement in the rear prob a good idea.

For -5 to +20, so a plus if they breathe.

Ten quid Regatta isotex ones when it is raining, RAF Goretex for the truly biblical weather.

Rainlegs work OK for me. Though probably best with mudguards.

I've got some of these, seem decent enough, gotta be worth a punt for under a tenner.

I used Endura Gridlock over trousers when I commuted. No good at 20 degrees, you’ll be wetter on the inside than outside. But I also wore them with a base layer whatever the weather from December to early March. It was wet enough most days to warrant it and it also saved carrying extra kit.

It depends on how far you ride and in what kit. But you won’t find breathable for under £50.

I went to our local army surplus (Marcross Stores) looking for ex army Goretex ones but ended up paying about £30 for some ‘normal’ hiking waterproof trousers. They claim to be breathable but I’ve never used them for sport / on the bike to try it. Generally use them for dog walking and they’ve been great. If you have a similar local store it might be worth popping in there and see what they have.

Alpkit waterproof trousers are nicely light and stretch made from a thin material and pack away to nothing. Madison Zenith have a really good cycle specific fit and also come with zip off legs. Both are decently breathable. Not under £50 though (yeah, I know) but not massively over budget if you shop around for something that is actually decent.

Don't remember price, but I use some Alturas here when it's wet for commuting. Not super breathable so commuter journeys only (30 mins max). I looked for a while to find something waterproof but that also had lower legs I could cinch in or button tight to avoid getting caught in chain. Some reflective on them too is nice.

Also wearing endures gridlock trousers over 3/4 tights. Works well but my commute is pretty short. Can't vouch for breathability.

Thanks for the suggestions! The Regatta overtrousers seem nice, but cyclist complain they get wet in the rain as the pockets are just holes and not closeable?

I'll add to my requirement, has closeable pockets (I can cut the inner lining if they are not through pockets). Some under 50 gbp options that have good reviews on amazon.co.uk:

Berghaus Men's Deluge Waterproof Breathable Over Trouser
Altura Night Vision Waterproof Mens Overtrousers
Mountain Warehouse Pakka Mens Waterproof Overtrousers

I’ve got some Tenn waterproofs. Around £20 from eBay. They’re not very breathable though. My commute is only 2miles so I can live with it

Overpants AKA overtrousers are pants meant to go over your other pants so they're typically not insulated and some have pockets that are just holes so you can use your inner pant pockets.

Got some keela rain pants for work, very good and not silly money.

I have a pair of endura mt500’s for cycling and they’re superb but expensive. Second hand an option?

I bought some Berghaus Deluge after them being recommend on here. I was between sizes but went up as I'll mainly use them for commuting (cycling) and thought the extra mobility might help. Seem good so far.

Rainlegs are good. Yes, they only cover the tops of your legs, but that's usually what gets wettest anyway. Maybe not the most breathable material, but usually less sweaty than trousers. And a lot easier to put on/take off than trousers.

I had some endura's for years that were good but were £80ish. They had a reinforced arse area.

I have the Berhaus deluge pants for dog walking and they are good but don't have a reinforced arse so I guess would wear out quicker.

I also have some ex army eBay Goretex pants. These are really good for waterproof/breathability but the sizing is confusing and although I ended up with my waist and leg sizing they are made for someone with tree trunk sized legs not spindly stick legs like mine.

Some of the contenders! Re the other suggestions: Endura has no pockets? Ex army no pockets either? Tenn Driven Waterproof Breathable poor reviews and mesh lining, more a snowboard pant? Polaris not totally waterproof. Regatta doesn't have zippered pockets. Keela rain pants look good, but no reviews from cyclists. I already have rainlegs and they're best in light summer rain.

Madison Stellar Waterproof Trousers 44 GBP
+ 2.5 DWR
+ cycling specific
+ 2 pockets
+ back pocket
+ leg zipper
+ 2 leg straps
- mesh lining
- few reviews

Altura Night Vision Waterproof Mens Overtrousers 35 GBP
+ cycling specific
+ 2 pockets
+ 2 leg straps
+ tons of positive reviews
- mesh lining?

Berghaus Men’s Deluge Waterproof Breathable Over Trouser 45 GBP
+ Lots of ventilation options
+ 2 pockets
+ articulated knees
+ tons of positive reviews (although not many from cyclists)
- no leg adjuster?
- noisy
- baggy
- no designed for cycling

Keela rain pants look good, but no reviews from cyclists.

Ton uses Keela's, so I'm gonna try some.
Those Regatta things are cheap shite which I use when fishing off the pier in summer & not even moving, still boil in the bag affairs. (I did 'steal' them though so serves me right)

Ok! Seems like Keela Lightning are the best trough pocket overpants without mesh lining, here are the ones I've looked at:

BEST RAIN-OVERPANTS WITH THROUGH POCKETS

Keela Lightning 30£
+ back pocket
+ belt loops (+elastic waistband)
+ double velcro leg straps
+ ankle zips
+ articulated knees
+ breathable
+ great reviews
+ short/medium/long leg lengths
- buttoned, not zippered pockets

Regatta: no through pocket closure

BEST RAINPANTS WITH MESH LINING/LINED POCKETS

Madison Stellar 44£
+ cycling specific
+ back pocket
+ leg zipper
+ 2 leg straps
– few reviews

Berghaus Deluge 45£
+ full leg zipper
+ articulated knees
+ positive reviews (not many from cyclists)
– no ankle zips?
– noisy & baggy
– no designed for cycling

Altura Night Vision 3 35£
+ cycling specific
+ articulated knees
+ double velctro leg straps
+ leg length adjustment
- non adjustable waistband
- not very breathable
- feet catch on leg lenght adjuster
- poor durability according to wiggle reviewers

Endura MT500: poor value
Endura Gridlock II: poor durability
RAF Goretex: no pockets
Tenn Driven: poor reviews
Rainlegs: I have them, and they’re best in light summer rain, no easy pocket access

I have some cheapo Aldi or Lidl Ones that are not breathable but do the job and have full length zips so no need to take a shoe off. Do the job and are hardwearing. Paid about 10pounds.

I also have some more expensive Altura ones but these mean I need to take my shoes off so I do not wear them often.

Nice, not sure aldi/lidl sells rain pants here in Germany, but id rather pay 20£ for something more breathable as I don't have any use for a full length zipper, more faff the way I use em. Problem is nobody has the 34 long Keelas in stock except for Keela £££..

@rusty - armyy trousers are sized by waist leg and arse, you got the first two right but the third determines how baggy they are.
