Entering my first ever MTB race/event/whateveryoucallit next weekend.

What's the deal with carrying stuff - camelback or bottle in cage and spares in jersey pockets?

Personal. Jersey pockets for me every time.

Yeah, I was leaning towards that - less of a sweaty back.

How long are laps? Will a 750ml bottle be enough or should I double up?

Laps are 9 km (under 30 min laps is pretty quick). A bottle about half full with a tube, multi tool and mini pump in the back pocket or attached to the bike.

Solo or team? If your doing team and 1 lap at a time you won't need any water on the lap.

I disagree, I'd take a bottle with me.

If your in a team and doing one lap each, any sort of hydration pack is overkill for sure. If the weathers warm (its forecast to be quite warm) then a small bottle would be more than enough. A lot of the lap is narrowish twists through the woods so you probably wouldnt want to be grabbing a bottle there. Toward the middle and end there is some long wide and straight sections where you could easily take a glug if needed. Enjoy it, its a great fun event.
